The Woodlands series is one of those series that
I will literally drop everything for. Since the very first book I fell in love
not just with the perfect writing style of Jen Frederick but with all of the
amazing characters she produces. So as soon as a new Woodlands series is
released I know I am going to sit down with a character I already know and love
and get the opportunity to fall in love with another one.
I was a little nervous when I saw this one was
Adam’s story. See I really love Adam but he was such a massive manwhore and I
am not a huge fan of rock star romances generally (groupies aren’t my thing) so
I was apprehensive about what we were going to get. I knew I would love it I
was just scared I was going to tie my stomach in knots dealing with angst and
drama.
I should have had more faith in my beloved Jen.
Adam was just the perfect book boyfriend from page one. He fell so hard and so
fast and was so sweet and devoted and just damn I want one BUT then he was also
this pierced and tatted rock god who could throw out dirty talk and back it up.
I didn’t know if I was going to swoon or spontaneously combust.
Then of course there was Landry. She was totes
adorbs. I really liked that she was part shy, insecure, computer geek with a
streak of steel. Like most of Jen’s characters she was multifaceted and felt so
real. Plus we got all of the other band members and their families and a little
bit of the original Woodlands couples to just add another great part of this
great series.
If you haven’t met the men of Woodlands you have
no excuses since Jen has them all on sale and if you’re lucky the first one
might even still be free. And if you have already met them all then please
message me so we can gush over how perfect Adam was as a boyfriend. Oh and you

After years of trying to hit it big with his band, Adam Rees’ dream is finally about to come true. A new lead singer brings with him a hot tour invite, but with a catch—his sister has to come with them. Despite an off-limits edict, Adam is instantly attracted the smart and beautiful Landry. But if he wants to claim his woman, it might be at the expense of all his ambitions.
Landry Olsen has had success at every stage of her life, except when it comes to men. She’s put her heart on the shelf, but one look at Adam and she’s a goner. The hot rocker heats her from the inside out, and she wants him as much as he wants her. The only thing standing in their way of their happiness is Landry's brother—she ruined his musical hopes before, and she won't do it again. Even if it means saying no to the one guy who makes her believe in love again.
There’s no fruit more tempting than the forbidden kind…

Ok ok I will
admit it, I have a massive wet soft spot for all the boys from the
Woodlands house. And by book four we have a fair amount of insight into each of
them as well as a solid knowledge in the fact that they are the kind of men
your Dad has nightmares about until they fall in love, cause when they fall
they fall hard and they fall fast and there is absolutely no grey (well there’s
Gray but he has had his own book ;) )
I have to
admit that Winter’s backstory hit me too close to home for comfort and I spent
a good portion of the book in tears where I am sure the author didn’t intend.
So my opinion on things might be slightly skewed by having my emotions so
closely linked.
Winter is the
adopted sister of an alcoholic. I don’t know if many people can grasp the kind
of person that makes you ,not on the surface but in the depths of your soul, but
damn did Jen nail it. And even though Winter did stupid things and made
decisions I would want to slap anyone else for,
I got it. It’s hard to walk the line between tough love and support when
you’re scared to set off the ticking time bomb that’s your sister and for a
good percentage of the book I was scared Jen was going to let Winter be the weak,
selfless person she started as.
Finn was one
of the Woodlands guys I was most looking forward to. However the road he walked
to get to Winter was hard and I had moments there where I just wanted to see
him say fuck you all and run away leave them all to deal with their own fall
out. I mean damn Jen give him a break. But then he is the kind of guy who will
weather any storm with his broad shoulders held high and I guess that’s why I
loved him from the start.
Of course I
should have had more faith in the amazing Jen cause the book was written so
perfectly that I honestly could believe she has lived it. The drama and angst
were in perfect proportion to the events and obstacles Finn and Winter had to
overcome to get to the end of the road they were on. And unlike a lot of New
Adult books there wasn’t drama or angst for the sake of it. Every bit of it was
valid and justified and just added to the characters and their story. And as
with all the books in the series the sex scenes were hot as hell and had my
tears forgotten and steaming off my pillowcase.
I honestly
can say that if I knew going into this book what the themes were I wouldn’t
have read it, so I am seriously glad I went into it blind just knowing it was a
much awaited, highly anticipated Woodlands Series novel, not even checking to
see who’s story I was getting before I dove right on in.
If you
haven’t read this series yet I couldn’t recommend it more. However each book
can be read as a standalone but why would you want to when some of the best men
live at the same address and you get to see a tiny bit of each of their
personality in each novel.

I am a huge fan of the Woodlands series. I love that Jen can so easily twist emotion, humour and steam into her books without it feeling she is trying too hard or without any of the components feeling like they are lacking.
But as much as I love this series and the guys in it I have to say that this one is probably my least favourite of the 3 and I don't know if it was just that I maybe wasn't in the mood for it or if there was just something small that was missing. But I didn't feel this book.
That isn't to say I didn't enjoy it or that I am not stalking her blog to see when the next book is coming out, just that I put the book down and didn't really care. I think maybe there was too much of the everyday mediocre and not enough of the heart stopping drama or sweep me off my feet romance or take my breath away lust and for me that's why I read.
Gray was a marine with a crisis of faith and Sam was a widow who's emotions were finally coming out of deep freeze after losing her husband. Together that made the perfect couple and I loved that they both fought for what they wanted and never lost faith.
As always the secondary characters were great and I really look forward to Finn's story next.

Unspoken by Jen Frederick
My rating: 4 of 5 stars
I absolutely love this series.
I wasn't a fan of Bo in the last book but reading this book he is now my favorite (don't tell the others)
AM was awesome. It's always nice when the girl isn't a pain in the ass and watching her slowly develop a backbone through this story was great. But then I think if I had Bo at my back I would feel pretty fucking good too.
AM's friends were great and I can't wait for the next book in the series. I am really hoping it will be Finn's story but then I am thinking maybe we are going to meet Gray in more depth but then even if she decides to write the phone book I will have it on my must read list and will sell it to everyone who will listen that they must read it.
