I devoured every book in this series and then we got to Marek, and I just couldn't pick it up. And even after I bought it, I had the thought I should just remove it from my TBR and kick off into the next series. But since I had that though after I bought it, I figured since I'd already paid for it I'd just read it and get it out of the way.

And to be honest that's kind of how I feel about the book. I didn't hate it, but I didn't love it. And I knew going in I would feel that way, so I don't know why I had to read it except I'm annoying AF, even to myself.

Let's be honest, secret babies have a fundamental reason why the baby is a surprise. Sometimes it's an innocent reason like a one-night stand or an unreachable person. But generally, it's hidden because of something that's happened between the couple. And then you almost have to pick sides. Is her reason for keeping it secret more valid than his (and more importantly the child's) right to know?

On top of that in a second chance romance novel you have the reason they aren't still together. Plus, how do they get over the above-mentioned secret baby stuff. And then we have this book and its characters.

So, I was on Team Gracen. I understood why she didn't tell Marek she was pregnant. And it helped that once he found out about it, he was a dick. His reasons for breaking up with Gracen were selfish acehole reasons in my opinion but at least he broke up with her and if that was the end of their story, I'd be happy. But I can honestly say in her situation after he has broken my heart out of nowhere after 5 years together because he doesn't want the responsibility of being in a relationship now that he's been drafted to the NHL, I wouldn't be hunting him down for anything.

Then to have him be a jerk about the fact she kept this secret without acknowledging that maybe she was valid. Bye bye Marek.

Other than the fact I disliked both characters and the theme the book was beautifully written, of course. And the secondary characters being people I liked in previous books were great to see. And now I can forget about this book and read the other series guilt free.

About RAFE
From New York Times and USA Today bestselling author Sawyer Bennett comes a new story in her Arizona Vengeance series…

I was living my dream until one phone call changed everything.

As the second line center for the Arizona Vengeance, my mind has been on one thing—helping my team bring home a championship. But that all changed when I found out my dad had cancer and only months to live. In that moment, nothing mattered more than getting home to North Carolina to be by his side. That meant asking for the unthinkable—a trade to the Carolina Cold Fury.

Now I’m home and when I’m not on the ice with my new team, I’m helping care for my dad. And in the midst of my grief, I find comfort from the one person I never expected.

Calliope Ramirez stole my heart at a very young age. The beautiful, smart, headstrong girl next door, she was my first… everything. She has never forgiven me for leaving her, believing that I chose hockey over a future together. What she doesn’t understand is that every decision I made was for her, and I’ve never given up hope that one day we’d be together again.

Watching my dad slip away is a harsh reminder of how short life can be, and having Calliope by my side makes me realize I was a damn fool before. That changes starting right now. Calliope Ramirez is mine and I’m not going to waste the second chance that I’ve been given.

**Every 1001 Dark Nights novella is a standalone story. For new readers, it’s an introduction to an author’s world. And for fans, it’s a bonus book in the author’s series. We hope you'll enjoy each one as much as we do.**

Connect With Her

I love Sawyer Bennett's hockey series but I have no patience so when I had to wait for the next book in the series I kind of put them down and forgot to go back to them. But I know when I do I'll binge my way through the whole series. So when I saw this 1001 dark nights novella i just had to read it and have the best of both worlds.

And I have really strong mixed feelings about the story. I have a love hate relationship with second chance. If someone was at fault for the breakup I need a really solid reason for that and a lot of groveling. And in this one I got neither. But then I felt so much sympathy for Rafe I couldn't hate him. Ok so I didn't like him for a page or two, but then damn him, my sympathy kicked in.

Calliope was a lot more forgiving than I could have been. I wanted to scream at her to run away but I also felt so much sympathy for her. She was also losing a loved one and on top of that she was confronting her past.

So while I felt Rafe needed a swift kick in the boys and a so long sucker wave, I can understand why Calliope went the other way. Overall the story really flowed. It was a quick and easy book to read. And I felt a load of emotions and cried a little. So I guess it's a 3.5 for now.

Wake up and feel the wood! In the first of a series of irresistible standalone romances from New York Times bestselling author Sawyer Bennett, a city girl rediscovers love and lust in the Alaskan wilderness.

Valentine French may be the sassiest dating columnist in New York City, but the abundance of metrosexuals in her adopted metropolis is seriously cramping her style. Where are the beefy all-American boys? Hoping to find some inspiration, Val heads to Alaska, where the men outnumber the women fifteen to one and wrestle grizzly bears for sport. Or so she can only imagine. Suddenly the most eligible bachelorette in a town full of horny lumberjacks, Val is writing her best columns ever. But if she doesn’t get her nose out of her laptop, she just might miss out on Mr. Right.

Logan Burke is the sheriff of the little podunk town that Val finds so charmingly backward. He’s not that different from the guys she’s using for her little experiment; it’s just that one date would never be enough for Logan. As he listens to Val complain about love over beers in the local tavern, he realizes that she can’t see the forest for the trees. Because if she would ever give up her Prada bags and fourteen-dollar martinis, Logan would give her the only luxury that matters: his heart.

OMG this was one seriously hot book. The chemistry was awesome and the sex scenes were just perfect. Not that Sawyer doesn’t normally nail it but I actually had to fan myself a few times while reading this and since privacy was so minimal I actually had a few moments where I did the look around because I was sure everyone in 100 metres had to know what I was reading.

I went into the book expecting not to like Valentine very much. I mean she is a spoilt, rich, socialite who is going to Alaska to run a social experiment on the men there. I figured she would be shallow and uncaring. Luckily for me I was way off and I loved her. She was quirky and despite being a lot of the above she was sweet and caring and I found myself actually rooting for her to get her happily ever after.

Logan I loved about 80% of the time. He had the whole possessive, dirty talking thing and I really loved how he was with Valentine but when things didn’t go his way he acted like a dick and I just wanted to smack him. I mean seriously dude twice you flew off the handle without getting any information then sulked like a two year old. Not attractive. But then he would make amends and be so sweet and awesome I would get over it all pretty quick.

The secondary characters were great and I can’t wait to see where this series is going to go.

I know I say this about every Cold Fury book I read but this time I mean it; Max was absolutely my favourite Cold Fury man ever. And this book was the best to date.

I really love this series. It has to be one of the best sports romance series going and I think it’s because it generally lacks all of the usual sports romance clichés. Sure a few of the book have had the other woman drama and the puck bunnies and man whores but the over whelming theme of the team as a whole is one of family and it just works so beautifully I have to get my hands on every new release.

Max was just the perfect gentleman, but I kind of knew that before I started the book I just didn’t appreciate his true depth of character and sweet nature. I always expect sports heroes to be these cocky full of themselves arseholes. But that couldn’t have been further away from Max and from the first page of this book I was so hooked I loved him.

Jules was something special all on her own and it was great to see a genuine kick arse chick with a backbone of steel who still felt all the normal human emotions you would expect her to in the situation she was in. I loved her self-doubt and her feelings of drowning under all the pressure she was under, because it made me connect in a way most heroines don’t. She was so human and down to earth and I wanted to buy her a drink and giggle over how sexy Max was and swap child raising nightmare stories, you know other than the fact she is fictional.

The relationship between these two was awesome and I loved watching it grow and develop. It was also really great to see our other Cold Fury couples and the way they all banded together and helped each other out. And now as Sawyer is want to do her little teaser into Roman’s novel now has me sitting on the edge of my seat waiting for it. But until then check out my other Cold Fury reviews if you haven’t already read the books and meet yourself an amazing group of men and women.

Alright I have to admit this was my least favorite cold fury hockey book and I really loved the others. So I have this kinda disappointed feeling that I haven't had with this series before.

But I also have this super excited feeling about Max's book after reading the teaser. I also know that I absolutely loved the ending of this book and it's still a four star read that I would recommend.

So why am I complaining right? I think honestly it's a massive case of its not you it's me. I mean the book had the usual hot as hell sex and plenty of the characters I loved but I just couldn't connect to Hawke and Vale.

Partially because I don't already know them maybe but mainly because I really hate stupid miscommunication and misunderstandings and this had both.

There was still plenty that I liked but I just couldn't get my head around that. But meh I got to catch up with some of my cold fury family and a kick ass teaser for the next one so I am still gonna be one clicking as soon as the preorder is up.

If you haven't yet started this series, well you better get to it. Check out my reviews for the rest of the Cold Fury Hockey here

I went into this wanting a full on growly alpha hockey player like I have gotten from a lot of Sawyer's other novels. The first thing I have to say is that is not at all what I got but I have to admit I am not disappointed.

I think if I hadn't just read off limits I might have enjoyed this a little more but Emily and Nix were a hard act to follow and Linc just never hit the mark for me.

I was expecting a man whoring asshole that I would love to hate, then swoon all over or even a reformed man whore and he wasn't either. Obviously I already knew he was a nice guy but I also knew he was a bit of a man whore with no intentions of settling down so I really did expect a bit more of a fight from him or even maybe Insta love.

And I never really warmed to Ever.  But then I think it really is more a case of it's not you its me with this one since I read this book after spending an hour trying to figure out what to read and decided on this one because I had loved both the cold fury series and the off series so much I figured this one would hit the mark without bothering to read the blurb.

I wasn't chasing the angst and drama this made me feel, so rather than getting lost in it like I would any other time I nit picked and didn't overlook things that ordinarily wouldn't bother me.

Now with all that said I know for a fact I will read every hockey book Sawyer writes, and I will love them. I will 100% recommend this series to anyone who wants a sports romance, I just won't waste a Sawyer Bennett book on a bad day when I should know better than to read anything other than complete smut.

Sawyer Bennett’s Cold Fury series has maintained its level of perfection yet again.

I have always been a sucker for smoking hot alpha athletes and even though we don’t have ice hockey in Australia I have to admit it works for me. When I picked up the first in the series I expected to enjoy it. I expected the normal easy sports themed romance that are a fun read but are almost interchangeable. However that is definitely not what I got with Alex. Instead I got a team of players I was deeply invested in and awesome women I wanted to see get the guy.

I have been dying for Ryker's book since Zack. I am a sucker for a single dad and I was intrigued by how a take no prisoners career orientated woman would fit into the mix.

I absolutely loved Gray but I have to admit I didn’t get what I was hoping for with this book. Gray was kick ass and I loved that she earnt her place in such a male dominated industry. That strength of character and drive was awesome but I was really wanting to see more interaction with Ruby and Violet and a bit more “family”.

Ryker was pure perfection as I had expected. He was an amazing dad and from the second he fell for Gray he showed it and proved it and I just wanted to steal him off the page and keep him. I love that he loved and respected everything Gray had achieved not just as her man but as a father who wanted to see the glass ceiling smashed before his daughters ever even knew it existed. He was all that I wanted and more.

As with every book in this series it was smoking hot, had plenty of emotion and a lot of great characters and once I started I couldn’t put it down. Love these Cold Fury guys.
