I have this
weird relationship with Rebecca Yarros's novels. See as an author Rebecca is
amazing. Her stories are absolutely beyond compare and her characters are so
perfectly real I immediately fall in love with them. But in every single book I
break while I read it and by the time I put it down I've been rebuilt with a
tiny piece being left behind in the pages. And so, I always need to find “the
right time” to read them. But in our house that just never occurs.
But for this
book, all the stars aligned. My awesome hubby and I had 4 beautiful days, kid
free in Bali for my birthday. So, I read this poolside in paradise and fell
madly in love with Allie and Hudson. And every other character in this
beautiful story.
Allie and
Hudson had literally everything working against them. And when they are thrown
together 10 years after being torn apart all the secrets are forced to light.
And I seriously didn't see half of those twists and turns coming. But watching
them come through the flames and get a beautiful happily ever after had me
putting down my kindle with so much happiness.
I
feel like we have waited for freaking ever for this book, with all of these
little teases about how amazing it is. And when it landed on my kindle, I
really wanted to wait for the perfect time to read it and I just couldn't. So,
I started reading it around the chaos of kids and pets and family and it ruined
my ability to adult. I literally struggled to put it down and when I managed to,
I couldn't pull my head from the pages.
Xaden
and Violet were such easy to love characters and the more I got of each of them
the more I wanted. But the two of them together was just beyond awesome. The
chemistry, the slow build, and the tension between them was everything.
I
really want to gush about every little detail of this book, but this is one of
those stories that you HAVE to read. Because you don't just read a book like
this, you live in it and never want to return. The twists and turns along the
way had me holding my breath and gasping and crying and having a good number of
oh shit moments.
I
have no idea how I'm going to wait until November for the next one. But I do
know that I'm going to be grabbing this on audible and listening to it sooner
than later because I want to pick it up again and read it slower so I can
luxuriate in all the small details I didn't appreciate because I was too busy
flipping through the pages to see what was going to happen next.
Nine years ago, Weston Madigan saved me. I came to Colorado penniless, heartbroken, and pregnant, searching for a fresh start. Weston gave me a job at his family’s resort, then left the next day and never returned, not even to visit.
Then I stumble in on Weston cooking breakfast shirtless—gloriously, inappropriately shirtless—in the shared kitchen of my duplex in employee housing. Given the shock on both our faces, he wasn’t expecting a roommate either, let alone two.
The growly pilot is only home to start his family’s new heli-skiing operation. I can handle being his temporary roommate, right? Chemistry and attraction aren’t impossible to ignore when you agree on ground rules. Besides, even with those gorgeous, brooding brown eyes, the guy is a walking thundercloud…until my daughter, Sutton, makes him laugh and he smiles at me. Then everything changes. Cue inconvenient heart flip.
This is only temporary.
I can’t fall for Weston.
Will. Not. Fall. For. Weston.
But rules go out the window when you’re a little too close.
Rebecca loves military heroes and has been blissfully married to hers for over twenty years. She’s the mother of six children, and is currently surviving the teenage years with three of her four hockey-playing sons. When she’s not writing, you can find her at the hockey rink or sneaking in some guitar time while guzzling coffee. She and her family live in Colorado with their stubborn English bulldogs, two feisty chinchillas, and a Maine Coon kitten named Artemis, who rules them all.
Having fostered then adopted their youngest daughter who is nonverbal and on the autism spectrum, Rebecca is passionate about helping children in the foster system through her nonprofit, One October, which she co-founded with her husband in 2019. I was so blessed to be able to pick this up as soon as I put down A Little too Late. And I feel that doubly as I want nothing more than to dive into Crew’s book, but I have to wait. And I really feel like I am going to crawl out of my skin in those long twelve days. Collaborations between these three authors really need a few days away because once I open the first one my head isn't returning from Madigan Mountain for a while.
I
knew going in that I was going to love this and hang on every word but somehow,
I still wasn't prepared for the full emotional ride I went on. Which is just
stupid because I love Rebecca's writing so much for that exact reason. The
chemistry between West and Callie was electrifying. The depth of each of them
ensured I would instantly love them.
It's
weird having a parent’s perspective on your childhood experiences sometimes and
reading this book I got to see that in both characters and I loved it. I really
loved the journey Weston went through in returning to his childhood home and
confronting his childhood traumas with the vision of an adult. And having
Callie's gentle support to show him the person he could be.
Callie
was just wonderful. She was the best example of a single mother, living life on
her own terms. I couldn't get enough of her bravery in putting herself out
there and going after her dreams. And the strength it takes to re-examine her
dreams and chase the new ones. And Sutton was such an integral part of the
story, which just added to it. Because let's be honest, as parents, EVERYTHING
revolves around the kids, and if you don't believe me, try using the bathroom
when you have a toddler.
The
worst part about this is having to put it down and not being able to call these
awesome people up to come have a glass of wine and catch up. Because I was so
wrapped up in the story I forgot I wasn't part of that world. Oh well, luckily
for me I get to cuddle my own hero while I tell him all about the book and he
pretends to give a shit.
Twenty-eight-year-old Georgia Stanton has to start over after she gave up almost everything in a brutal divorce—the New York house, the friends, and her pride. Now back home at her late great-grandmother’s estate in Colorado, she finds herself face-to-face with Noah Harrison, the bestselling author of a million books where the cover is always people nearly kissing. He’s just as arrogant in person as in interviews, and she’ll be damned if the good-looking writer of love stories thinks he’s the one to finish her grandmother’s final novel…even if the publisher swears he’s the perfect fit.
Noah is at the pinnacle of his career. With book and movie deals galore, there isn’t much the “golden boy” of modern fiction hasn’t accomplished. But he can’t walk away from what might be the best book of the century—the one his idol, Scarlett Stanton, left unfinished. Coming up with a fitting ending for the legendary author is one thing, but dealing with her beautiful, stubborn, cynical great-granddaughter, Georgia, is quite another.
But as they read Scarlett’s words in both the manuscript and her box of letters, they start to realize why Scarlett never finished the book—it’s based on her real-life romance with a World War II pilot, and the ending isn’t a happy one. Georgia knows all too well that love never works out, and while the chemistry and connection between her and Noah is undeniable, she’s as determined as ever to learn from her great-grandmother’s mistakes—even if it means destroying Noah’s career.
Rebecca Yarros is the Wall Street Journal and USA Today bestselling author of over fifteen novels, including Great and Precious Things and The Last Letter. “A gifted storyteller” (Kirkus), she is also the recipient of the Colorado Romance Writer’s Award of Excellence for Eyes Turned Skyward from her Flight and Glory series.

Rebecca Yarros is one of the best romance writers. Her books are so perfectly written with so much depth and emotion that I anticipate reading them as much as I dread it. I have to read them and I know I will love them and rave about them and 5 star them every single time. But I also know I will break while I read this book. I will need to be left alone with my emotions and tissues while I wait for Rebecca's writing to put me back together.
From the first page I was struggling to get a reality break so I could wrap myself up in this story. Because there was so much happening and every single piece of it had me captivated. Watching Noah and Georgia fall in love while they traversed the history, life and love of Scarlett and Jameson was beautiful.
Georgia had my heart breaking for her and I wanted so much to just love her. But she was so strong under all of that pain, that I couldn't pity her. I just wanted to slay all her dragons. Luckily for all of us Noah was already there with his sword and armour racing off to keep anything from touching her. He just did it so unceremoniously, you didn’t notice until you were standing in a river or dragon blood wondering where it came from.
But damn the twists and turns and heartbreak just kept right on coming. For Georgia and for the readers. Naturally, the other emotions were just as strong and the hope had me sitting on the edge of the seat. I knew coming into this that one of the love stories ended in tragedy which kept me in suspense and made me read this as slowly as possible. Because I couldn’t be ugly sobbing while waiting on my son’s ankle to be x-rayed or while sitting in the school pick up line so I had to take my time while my heart was broken and rebuilt.
This book was just amazing and I know I'm going to reread it a million times.
