Meet Mila Kane

I'm obsessed with cats, coffee, and anti-heroes just the right side of insane.

I write dark and dirty romance with the alpha-holes of your most filthy nightmares.

While I like my heroes obsessed and powerful, I like my heroines smart and independent. My headstrong, capable women will bring their own personal demons to their knees, and capture their hearts at the same time.

I only write SAFE stories, there is never a place for another woman in my heroes sights, once he's caught the scent of the heroine, and there will always be, no matter how dark and twisted the story might be... a HEA guaranteed.

I put down Dark Intentions and immediately needed to read Nikolai and Sophia’s story. And I don’t regret a thing. I normally avoid mafia stories, and anything labelled as dark is normally hit and miss because dark is such a broad brush. Yes, this had dark themes but I have no issue with blood and action, the things I can’t stand are degradation and using the label to just let the hero be an all-around piece of shit. The guys in this are the definition of anti-hero and they have their moments where they are maybe a toe over the line of treating their ladies poorly but the mitigating circumstances made me ok with it.

I am not able to review these books separately as I made the mistake of reading the blurb of both books because I knew I would have to read both, and I had to check the trigger warnings and such because I am a wuss. So, I went into the second book knowing that the cliffhanger from book one was going to be resolved. Also, from their cameo in Dark Intentions I knew they were living happily ever after so I was reasonably confident I could handle it.

Nikolai was a complete psycho, but he was so completely obsessed with Sophia and literally saw nothing but her. Their entire love story was dark and twisted and probably the least romantic story I have read but their connection was so intense and undeniable. I couldn’t get enough of them or their journey from first meeting to Nikolai burning down the whole world to make sure his sparrow was safe.

Everything about this book had me unable to breath anything but it from the second I read the first page. And now I am wanting to read the rest of the books around this couple because I am in love with them all and their dark world. Oh, and now I have a new author to stalk so YAY.

I can't even describe how quickly I've fallen under the spell of this author. I picked up one book on a recommendation and then ended up binging a few and adding more to my TBR. Then I had to wait for this one. I read the blurb and it kind of confused me. Then I had to wait for this to land on my kindle and I sort of forgot all about the ice gods and the premise of this book.

So when I started reading this I was expecting the situation the blurb describes, then as I started reading it all came flooding back. I remembered the weird tension between Beckett and Eve from the previous book. And then I was so invested in everything going on with these guys that I couldn't care if the blurb was a picture of a squirrel with an oversized scrotum.

Every time Beckett thought of himself as broken, I kept hearing pink sing “we're not broken just bent” and I don't think it ever fit a character more. My heart bled for Beckett and everything that he had lived through and the way it had been used against him. I can't even imagine how alone he must have felt. But Eve was the perfect fit for him.

Eve was one of those characters that I want to shake. She was so perfect and yet her insecurities made her feel so lacking. Thankfully Beckett was there to show her how perfect she was and spoil her like the princess she deserves.

This story had so much going on, with so many different people I was obsessed. I hated having to put it down to adult and I am absolutely dying to get the rest of the ice gods books. I cannot wait to get my grabby hands on Asher and Winter. But right now, I'm off to stalk the back catalogue and load up my kindle for the next time I can binge them.

So we walked away from RAW devastated and sure that we were going to be left on that ending. Then we found out that Belle was writing another one for Julius and I have to be honest I was incredibly apprehensive about putting myself through that again. But then I had to know. So I picked it up and literally couldn’t put it down.

I cooked dinner with it in one hand while I sobbed over the horrors Ana had experienced at the hands of the people who loved her. The way her story started I loved how sweet she was but I had this idea in my head of who I thought she was going to turn into as I watched the sharp decent her life took. I expected this hard, bitter, manipulative bitch (you know kind of like Ling) so when she was just so broken but still so sweet I was torn between wanting to wrap her up in a blanket and cuddle her and shake her and tell her to get a back bone and to not trust anyone.

Julius was awesome and I loved him in Raw so much but damn did he need his arse kicked for the way this story played out. Luckily for him he redeemed himself so perfectly I think I could forgive him almost anything. Ling I have hated from the start and although my heart breaks for all she went through I am sincerely waiting to see the bullet pierce her cold dead heart.

Now I do need to say there was a lot of this book that didn’t work for me and I had a lot of WTF moments where I just felt like maybe we had skipped over something or several things but then the story dragged me back in and I suspended my disbelief and got wrapped back up in what was happening. I had an idea of how the various character’s stories would collide and the Twitch mystery would be unveiled to Julius so I did feel a little disappointed in the way that played out. And like I said I hated Ling so much I feel she ruined a lot of the story between Julius and Ana but I get that we are probably being set up for more in the next book.

As per usual a lot of people died and some of them were the wrong people so I felt like I got my heart stomped on again and again and every time I stopped crying I would end up holding my breath waiting for the next trauma. And despite the three epilogues (all ridiculously too short) I feel like everything is still so unfinished I both curse and applaud Belle Aurora for her talent in leaving me on that knifes edge. It literally took me two hours after putting this book down to compose myself enough to go to sleep at 3am. Hopefully we don’t have to wait as long for the next one.
