Since we got that tiny tease of Poppy showing up at Jax’s at the end of the last book I've had ideas about how this was all going to play out. Then I read the blurb for this book and my ideas pivoted. So, I really wasn't ready for how completely emotional this book made me.

Obviously, we have gotten to know Poppy as the baby of the family through the previous family members' books. And we got a little about Jax as Cameron's best friend in his book. But getting them in their own story, from their own point of view, had me all up in my feels for them both.

Seriously Karla wrote both of these characters with so much depth, I literally feel like I just lived that along with them. Poppy was such an old soul with so much empathy and understanding for everyone around her. I wanted to stamp my feet and yell that she was an adult for her, but she understood where they were coming from and calmly went about showing them she was all grown up, and I loved it.

I went into this book kind of hating on Jax. Then I read the prologue and I just wanted to wrap him in a hug and kick his mum. Hard. And then we slowly saw Jax unfold and show his soft underbelly and I couldn't get enough of him. Every time he peeled back another layer and saw himself more clearly, I wanted more.

Jax and Poppy were perfect together.  I would have liked to see more of them together but I really did enjoy the journey.  Even if it did make me cry once or twice. The secondary characters were hilarious and I am hoping we get more of dipshit and Sam in the next book, whoever that may be.
