I stumbled upon this Facebook group for obsessed
alphas and wondered why it took Facebook this long to put us together. Then I
kept seeing all these books and I'll be honest, a lot of them are outside my
normal genres. I love OTT, obsessed alphas, but I'm not huge on mafia or MC or
anything too dark. And sadly, those were a lot of the recommendations.
Then this book was recommended and the review I
read had me adding it to my TBR, not really thinking I'd be reading it any time
soon. Until I saw that it had released, and I read the blurb again and one
clicked it on KU. I picked it up read the first two pages, didn't get a great
vibe, got distracted by children and left it forgotten. Fast forward a few days
and I picked up my kindle, figured I would read a bit more …….. and never put
it down again.
So initially, Alex wasn't my type of hero. He was
into a lot of things I can do without, and I was expecting the typical man
whore scenes from the author to prove how bad he was. Then we met Olivia. And
Alex was my kind of crazy. He was so instantly all in and there was so many
twists and turns and secondary characters I was as completely in as he was.
The only surprise bigger than how much I enjoyed
this crazy, wild ride is the fact this is only the authors second book. Because
you know as soon as I put this down, I went to see what I was adding to my TBR
from the author. So, I guess for now I just have to keep my eyes open for the
next one.
I read the
tropes and trigger warnings for this book and I immediately had to get my
grabby little hands on it. Then as soon as it landed on my kindle I dove in. I
didn’t read the blurb, I didn’t check on GR to see if this was part of a
series. I just went in completely hyped to read a book that hit all of my happy
places. Then page one I see the playlist and I’m thinking this book is my
spirit animal. Over half of the songs I love and the other half are songs I
don’t know from musicians I love so obviously this book was written just for
me. Sadly it just wasn't to be.
The prologue
had me settling in, ready for wherever this little journey was going to take
me. But then I just couldn’t connect to the author’s writing style. I found it
was very much tell, and not show and I am personally then struggle to get lost
in the story. It felt disjointed but then I don’t know if that was because I
wasn’t getting caught up in the book and so my attention wandered and then I
missed things. I feel like maybe I needed to read the first book in the series
because I still have no idea what happened to Lincoln but it was like a shadow
over the story at times.
I really
didn’t connect to the characters which I really wanted to but I just felt a
whole lot of meh. The story could have been good and I really liked the premise
but it felt like it was rushed. And it played out almost in point form, over
days rather than weeks or months. Normally I don’t have an issue with young
college kids being too mature and world aware for their age but these guys felt
like toddlers putting on a batman costume and thinking they are batman. I don’t
want you constantly telling me you're bad and tough. Yes your actions also kind
of backed that up but there was no real proof that anything you got away with
doing was anything more than dumb luck, then you claim it’s because you’re a
“blackwood” and your dad is so influential but at no time did either of those
things come into play except when you were telling a teenaged girl to shut
up.
I don’t
know. I didn’t enjoy it but judging from the reviews on the first book maybe
it’s a me thing. Maybe it would be different if I had read the first book and
got some background on all of these brothers. Or maybe this can’t be read as a
standalone and I’m an idiot for reading it as such. Either way if this is your
kind of book, enjoy.
This book has been on my TBR for years and I could
never bring myself to read it. I guessed the secret from the blurb, as
intended, and I figured the book would be an ugly cry read. What I didn't
expect was that I not only ugly cried while reading this, but I couldn't stop
crying and I couldn't put it down.
Geez Sophie literally went through hell in every
aspect of her life. There wasn't a single person who stood by her or even
second guessed the story. Even the people closest and involved and for most of
the book I couldn't understand why Carey was letting her drown like that. I
started to hate him. Then Blake with his push and pull, I went on a whole
rollercoaster twice on how I felt about him and how I wanted things to play
out.
George was the absolute star of the show. He was
the only person who actually saw Sophie and guided her towards seeing the rest
of everyone's pictures. Because by the end of that story when you stand back
and see the view from everyone's frames you can see what you were missing.
Sophie broke me with how much she was carrying. And
parts of her story are parts I could completely understand, other parts I could
only watch and image the pain that was inflicted. But she never once wavered
from being her beautiful self. And she just took it all on with so much dignity
I loved her. But I loved her even more when everything finally came to light,
and she just quietly did what she needed to do for herself.
Now for me as a die-hard romance reader, I would
have killed for an epilogue for Sophie and Carey and Blake to be all together
again with everything out on the table. I also am dying to know what Angel was
thinking and what was going on with her and Blake. But the way that ended was
beautiful and I am going to have this book and especially Sophie living in my
head rent free for years.

Blurb:
It’s no
secret that I’ve been in love with Jax Cartwright for half my life. A terrible
decision, really, and not just because he’s my brother’s best friend or he’s
ten years older than me.
Thanks to an
overprotective family, he’s ignored me for years, but still, I can’t get his
grumpy a** out of my head. And in a wine-fueled, post-bad date funk, I make
another terrible decision: show up at his cabin to ask why he’s never given me
a chance.
The storm
that got me stuck there overnight was a total fluke, but I’m no fool. While Jax
is perfectly clear about not wanting a family or love or any of the
happily-ever-afters I’ve dreamed of, what’s the harm in asking for just one
night? The worst thing he can say is no.
He doesn’t
though, and I was saying yes, yes, yes a whole lot after that.
Best.
Decision. Ever.
One night is
enough to feel like I can move on, and we agree to let it be a secret kept safe
between us.
But you know
what makes it hard to keep a one-night secret about my not-so-secret crush?
A positive
pregnancy test.
Oh baby,
things are about to get interesting.

My
football player ex cheated on me, so the last thing I need is to fall for
another quarterback. Especially when he’s still mourning his baby mama who
tragically passed away.
After I
accidentally plow my car into Nick Silva’s bumper, I can’t blame him for not
hiring me to be his daughter’s nanny, but I’m still salty about it. I need the
money to go on a trip of a lifetime, one my ex didn’t want me to take.
The worst
part is Nick just moved in next door.
I’m sure he
associates me with my dirtbag ex—his former teammate—so I try to avoid my
neighbor whenever possible.
But when his
new babysitter gets locked out of the house, leaving Nick’s four-year-old alone
inside, I attempt to rescue her by breaking in through a window.
Unfortunately,
I have a wardrobe malfunction and end up flashing my goodies to the whole
neighborhood, Nick included.
Because of
my embarrassing heroics, Nick’s now convinced I’d be a great nanny.
The trouble
with football players is they’re very persuasive, so I agree to take the job
but immediately regret it.
Who needs to
see a gorgeous, shirtless man jumping rope and doing push-ups in gray
sweatpants? Who wants to watch a sexy, single dad snuggle his little girl and
read her bedtime stories? Who enjoys working closely with a walking, talking
thirst trap every single day?
Fine. I do.
I want all of that, but I already swore I’d never date another jock after the
last one stomped all over my heart, so this bookworm needs to play it safe.
But rumor
has it Nick has a new girlfriend, which helps me maintain appropriate
boundaries.
Because I
won’t be blindsided by another quarterback again.

Bella
Matthews needs to write faster. It's so exciting to stumble on an author early
in their writing career until you realise it just means a whole heap of
waiting. Especially when their words are like your own personal addiction and
their characters, and their families feel like friends you are dying to catch
up with.
I kind of
started reading all of these books after coming across the first book in the
second generation. So, I went back and read the Kings of Kroydon Hills series
first not realising that there were more books of the original family members. Obviously,
I read them all in a mad binge and loved every word. Now we are getting more of
the second and in some cases third generation and they are even more
interconnected than the first.
And I am
here for every second of it. I'll be honest I don't even try to keep up with
the family trees until I'm reading the book and a parent pops in or a cousin
and it all comes rushing back. It's like a big bowl of happiness. And honestly
if I paid attention to the secondary characters as much as they deserve, I
would know who's next. With the exception that we get thrown a surprise every
few books that makes me forget everything but the couple I'm so completely
wrapped up in.
In the case
of Caitlin and Callen I was so invested. There was so much family drama from
all sides and their own drama I couldn't put the book down. I wanted to be so
mad at Callen and yet I completely understood. No matter what Sam told me to do
I think I'd smile, nod and get right to it, so I couldn't hold a grudge that he
complied with the Mafia king. Caitlin held a grudge perfectly and I respected
her so much for it. But with the chemistry between them and having experience
with pregnancy hormones I can't blame her for climbing him like a tree.
Towards the
end I was expecting assassination attempts and explosions. Instead, we got
drama and stress and heartbreak before being put back together for a beautiful
epilogue. And I didn't miss the fireworks I was expecting because I was too
busy loving how everything was wrapped up. But now we have to wait again. Leo
better make it worth our while.

About HOW MY NEIGHBOR STOLE CHRISTMAS
A new
winter holiday, enemies-to-lovers romance, from the undeniably funny and always
spicy, USA Today bestselling author, Meghan Quinn.
Living in a year around
Christmas town has it's drawbacks. The caroling, the decorations, the insanely
cheery spirit, it never disappears. It's why I like to hibernate away in my
cave--I mean house--keeping a healthy distance from the holly jolly spirits.
And all was going according to plan until my nemesis, Storee Taylor, moved in
next door to care for her Aunt Cindy. Without blinking, she turned my simple
world into a real nightmare-before-Christmas, especially when she decided to
enter the town Christmas Kringle contest - which she was determine to win.
Well guess what? Over my cold-hearted body.
There was no way I was going to let her win, not after the history we'd shared.
So despite my promise to myself of never participating in the sickening
Christmas season, I entered the competition as well. That's right, I planned on
beating Storee at her own game by pretending this grump’s heart grew three
sizes this season.
And it was working until feelings between us started heating up.
We pretended to date.
We kissed.
And well, sparks flew from there.
Which led to one explosive night involving Christmas lights, the competition,
and a ladder. Don't let me convince you who stole Christmas, I think you need
to find out for yourself . . .
